KATY J PEARSON & MAUDLIN WILLIE OF WINSBURY

Heavenly Recordings-signed songwriter, musician and stunning vocalist Katy J Pearson has revealed a fresh interpretation of a very old song in collaboration with Maudlin. Spearheading a new album by London-based folk collective Broadside Hacks (consisting of members of Sorry, Goat Girl, Gently Tender, Pixx, Lankum, Blaenavon and many more), Pearson and the band breathe new life into 'Wille of Winsbury' as she explains: “The beginnings of Willie of Winsbury are utterly fascinating and the fact the song has survived hundreds of years is wonderful. The lyrics to me also have a big feminist undertone which is very forward thinking for the 1700s.” Utilising organic instrumentation and contemporary melodies, Pearson's instantly recognisable vocals guide the way through a comforting combination of drums, double bass, violin, banjo and mandolin. Due to arrive on the 10th of September, Broadside Hacks' Songs Without Authors Vol. 1 will be released via their own label, run by Sorry's Campbell Baum. Catch them live at Green Man or End of the Road Festival, if you're lucky enough to have tickets, and check out the equally pleasing visuals directed and edited by Howard Holloway here now. -Holly Mullineaux
